Mrs. Seifert, sixty-three years old and curator of an art gallery, commissioned this house after her previous home, an approximately 150 years old building, burned down. For her new home she demanded a particular requirement - namely, the new house (contrary to her previous one) should fuse with nature in order to give her an immanent feeling of the change of seasons.





















Subsequently, the conception of the house became a deep engagement with Mies, in particular with the Farnswoth House, and the question of how a space should be constituted in order to open itself to the surrounding by simultaneously offering privacy.



























Furthermore, it became an investigation of how much freedom in space effectively determines the way of living in contrast to a few certain spatial determinations that liberate. Whereas the first model refers to Rietveld's attempts to create freedom e.g. by means of sliding doors etc. the later model refers to Mies' structured open plan.

Mrs. Seifert tried to follow and understand the conceptual approach with great interest, and supported final decisions on the construction. She spared no effort to understand Mies' architecture and made educational journeys.

This Garell Residence was designed for a retiring doctor, who after falling in love with the small town of Yachats, Oregon, decided to relocate to a quiet hillside along its border. The site is characterized by its coastal relationship, both in terms of its beautiful ties to nature as well as in terms of its exposure to severe weather conditions that can take shape in the form of horizontal wind driven rainstorms that can reach speeds up to 140 mph.

The project is a 3,500 square foot residence located on a south-facing slope above the Yachats River. The area is heavily wooded with spruce, pine, and alder. The house is organized around its scenic views of its surroundings as well as defining a central courtyard that puts the focal point onto the hill above.

The courtyard was designed following the Japanese garden or "Angawa", which allows for shelter from prevailing winds while still allowing for a connection to the outdoors. Large overhangs also protect the home from the strong winds. The high volume of annual rainfall was considered within the design by incorporating large copper scuppers that divert the water into falling streams above large collection basins.

The entry frames a view onto the central courtyard and allows the residents the convenience of an accessible mudroom to quickly and easily clean themselves after being exposed to the outdoors. The living and dining areas of the home continue to frame views of the courtyard and rock garden while opening up large views on the opposite wall of the canyon and ocean below.

For us it is impossible to imagine modern Brazilian architecture without thinking about the strong influence of Finland in the form of the exceptional works of Alvar Aalto. When we consider our architectural origins, or our referential network, we come across structures, spatial concepts, constructional principles, use of materials and relationships with nature and urbanity, shared with Finnish architectural practice.

Our proposal can be said to want to appear and disappear; it locates itself frankly and resolutely in the territory. At the same time, through its materiality which always keeps in mind the aspect of aging and weathering in the severe Finnish climates, it mimics the forest, camouflaged, yet never withdrawing itself completely.

The building displays a personality of its own in between the bleak and untouched nature, without imposing itself onto her. Its integration into the landscape will be orchestrated according to the seasons, to varying light conditions and functional circumstances, and the experience of the materials, colours and structural elements will be transformed.

The V-House. An amazing jungle retreat near the fishing village of Yelapa in tropical Mexico. This rustic-modern aesthetic hotel was designed by Heinz Legler, who use to own a film set construction company and Veronique Lievre, previously a set decorator, from Paris. They started this project as their personal hideaway, but it ended up construction an hotel in a 5 acre area, with infinity pool, spa, restaurants, yoga hut and 8 guest rooms.

The V-Houses











This year they expanded their hotel with V-Houses, 5 units with 3 units for hotel staff, 2 for guests, a kitchen and a shared bathroom. This three tower-houses have a particular structure, raising from a small concrete foundation as you can see on the construction pictures. The V Houses are made out of steel, plywood and red corrugated iron roofs.

The idea to build those ‘outlooks’ came from Jo Scheer who had build his ‘hoochs’ in Puerto Rico and Oregon. He use mainly Bamboo or Douglas fir poles; we decided to use metal instead. With basically no environmental impact or foot print, those structures can be built on any type of surface condition. Flat ground, steep hills, lots of vegetation, trees, water, sand or whatever else might be in the way for any other design or construction.

With 16’ off the ground they also created an instant spectacular view where there normally wouldn’t be one. Each room has a floor size of 16’x16’ but since all walls tilt outwards the actual space when standing is increased to 18’x18’ and by the time you look at the ceiling we are at 21’x21’.

The houses are self contained. Solar panels on top, compost toilets and all grey water is treated in our gardens. Since it was an experiment there is room for improvements and definitely a learning curve. Disadvantage, this type of design and construction would have never been approved by any building department in US.

Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House 1910

Frank Lloyd Wright : At the age of 8, I knew I wanted to be an architect. I was 10 years old when my mother first taught me about Frank Lloyd Wright. He was the 1st architect I would ever learn about. I learnt much more about his works later on when I was studying architecture in university.

I became fascinated by his architecture and his philosophies on space, form and nature. I learnt about so many modern architects but no one ever stood out like FLW to me. I was utterly captivated by his ingeniousness.

When I was in Chicago, I had the privilege to visit his ‘prairie houses’ in person. I had seen and studied a lot of his works through books but nothing compared to seeing them in person. You do not necessarily have to love FLW’s taste in design, colours and form but I think when you understand the principles behind his architecture you realize what a genius he was and how ahead of his time he often was.

If you drive through Oak Park and do not recognize his buildings, you would think some of them were designed in the 70s most likely_ but they were all built between 1890-1910_ a time when Victorian houses with pitched roofs were being erected.

The most fascinating thing about FLW is how his architecture always evolved and how his career spanned over 70 years. His understanding of space and form in unison with nature (organic architecture) was complimented by his great knowledge in engineering and structural integrity_ he was a true Master.

Herringbone Houses by Alison Brooks Architects





















Two 4000 sq ft homes in Wandsworth, London have been designed with a new and modern feel. The designer uses wood throughout that displays a herringbone patterned timber that weaves itself throughout the interior and exterior of the homes.





















Using this design helps to move away from the cookie cutter design into more contemporary and fresh elements. Inside, the living room is shadowed by overhangs from the 2nd level. A beautiful dark wood staircase leads up to the 2nd and 3rd levels of the home which contain bedrooms and more family rooms.

Harmonic space in three dimensions where the continuous dynamic of the fourth dimension when journeying in spiral is perceived on the flight of the steps, with the sensation to float on the vegetation





















This Nautilus House put together using ferrocement construction, a technique involving a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a special two-inch-thick composite of concrete spread over it, resulting in a structure that’s earthquake-proof.

Great View to Heavens at Keenan Towerhouse | Marlonblackwell Architect

Located on 57 Acres within the City Limits, This Keenan Towerhouse gives you a great views to heavens and an open skycourt, a wide open space of landscapes can be seen 360 degree thru this 80' high residential office tower. Designed by Marlonblackwell Architect




























The Building structure of this Keenan Towerhouse is using the steel frame structure thas is clad with milled 2x6 white oak fins and 22 gauge white horizontal ribbed steel panels. A steel stairway winds up through a 50' high courtyard. The rooms consist of living/sleeping room, bathroom, kitchenette, and storage/mechanical room.

Stuart Tanner Architects Project on Pirates Bay House, Tasmania

A beautiful house that reflected a modern and natural ( environmentally sustainable ) design that located in Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania is designed by well known australia architect, Stuart Tanner Architects. This House is also called Pirates Bay House because its located on a cliff between the Tasman National Park and the Pirate’s Bay Beach that offers a great panoramic view for the owner.

The environmentally sustainable designs of this house are applied by minimizing its environmental and physical footprints, applying cross ventilation that created passive cooling and heating, rainwater and on site waste water management. This is just a nice sample of residential project that we should applied in our own residence to make a better environmentally and sustainable design. Great work from the Architect.

Cool Anna Demeulemeester Green Shop by Mass Studies

Hi everyone, here i just startin a new posting again after severals day i didn't updated this blog coz mybusyness on doin some animation project, lest get started....
























This is not a house design, but i really love it when first time i see, its cool shop design for Ann Demeulemeester Shop that located at Seoul’s Gangnam district, Korea.This cool Green Shop have a vertical garden (Pachysandra terminalis) that create relationship between natural/artificial and interior/exterior as an amalgamation, rather than a confrontation. Designed by korean architects : Minsuk Cho, Kisu Park at Mass Studies.
